Irem's R-Type, a fine shooter regarded by some MSXers as a cheap Gradius ripoff, originally only sang MSX-MUSIC if it detected an FM-PAC cartridge. A fix for this peculiarity is already floating around on the internet, though not without its bugs. Today, BiFi (not active on our forum anymore), released an additional ROM image that's able to make R-Type detect MSX-MUSIC. It also allows the user to boot with PSG or MSX-MUSIC, and MSX1 or MSX2 graphics via a menu. Like FIXBOOT, it can be obtained from BiFi's website, in the Downloads section, under Bugfixes.
MRCさんを覗いてみたら、海外の有志の方が、
「R・TYPE」MSX版のバグ修正パッチを作ったという情報を発見。
MSX版「R・TYPE」は、FM音源検出処理に問題があって、
MSX-MUSIC内蔵機種であっても、FM-PACを挿さない限り、
FM音源で鳴らないというバグがあります。
件のパッチはROMイメージファイルとして配布されてまして、
コナミのROM二本挿し技の要領で、このバグに対処するというものです。
今時MSX版「R・TYPE」のバグを直すという酔狂ぶりが気に入った荒井でした。
